Villa Karo, located in the tranquil village of Grand-Popo, Benin, is a unique cultural and research institute that bridges Finnish and West African cultures.

Founded in 2000 to promote cross-cultural dialogue and mutual understanding, Villa Karo offers artists, researchers, and cultural professionals a dynamic space to immerse themselves in the rich traditions and contemporary life of West Africa. By facilitating some 45 residencies annually, as well as exhibitions and collaborative projects, the institute fosters a deep exchange of ideas across disciplines through art and science.

Each year, the cultural center welcomes approximately 14,000 visitors and hosts a diverse array of activities, including concerts, theater and dance performances, movie nights, seminars, access to a library, and two museums.
